Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is a short trip to Colorado Springs from Denver. As you enter the park, you are greeted by a giant stone sign with large formations jutting up from the ground. Rock formations are surrounded by green grasses, making them look bigger than life as they sit in front of Pikes Peak.

Fun Fact: Archaeological evidence shows that prehistoric people visited Garden of the Gods about 1330 BC. At about 250 BC, Native American people camped in the park.

Once you enter the park, you can turn right and park in the first lot. From here, you will walk past Kissing Camels (first picture) and fields of wildflowers. The paths are paved throughout the park, making it easy to get around.

There are many different structures, and in the middle of the park behind Kissing Camels are these thin, upright rocks shooting high into the sky. When we were there, we saw people rocking climbing them; a reservation is required to climb (Pictures make them small but they are far from small).

The plaque posted on the rock wall states that in 1909 when the land was gifted to the city, the four hundred plus acres shall remain free to the public, and the only buildings that can be built on the land are those that will take care of the land.

We saw mountain goats at the top of mountains, deer within the park, and at the end of the loop through the park, we passed by balanced rock. Garden of the Gods is an easy day adventure and a flat path for anyone to do.
